Farm Mobbers,
Tony and Dela Ends of Scotch Hill Farm have informed us of this hearing that is happening on Monday, May 9th in Janesville regarding their clean water fight! It would be great if UW Madison students could make a big appearance to show our support! Here is the info:
Stand against Confined Animal Feeding Operations and their threats to our small family dairies, animal rights, and clean water in Wisconsin. Nitrate levels in the water in Southern Wisconsin are now at dangerous levels, forcing rural families to invest in expensive home osmosis systems and livestock to suffer from reduced weight gain and spontaneous abortions. Janesville spent $10 million to drill a new, deeper well to draw clean water for blending with their previous main source of water, now contaminated beyond US government regulations for safe nitrate levels. Because of their huge contributions of liquid manure, and hence nitrate, to the water supply, the American Public Health Association once recommended a moratorium on CAFO contruction. Out of state farmers are currently building even more CAFO mega-dairies in Wisconsin. Show lawmakers that Wisconsin citizens say no!
Meet at 2:45 behind Science Hall on Monday, May 9 to carpool down to a CAFO hearing at the Craig Center in Janesville at 4:00. Please sign up to come with! Let us know if you have a car and are willing to drive! We need to make a big appearance!
