Farm Mobbing
Farm Mobbing is a work
share program that brings student volunteers from the UW campus to Madison area farms. Students work with farmers on a variety of tasks - from cleaning up a hoop house to wrangling chickens - learning along the way about the processes involved in getting the foods they enjoy from seed to market. In return for their help, volunteers are rewarded by the farm with knowledge, and either a meal , a basket of fresh
produce, or farmer's market gift certificate.
This is very much a full circle sustainability campaign for those who strive to know more about their 'foodshed'. We aim to help UW-Students connect to Madison area farms, bringing the 'farm to fork' concept to life. Farm mobbing is a great opportunity to work outside, make new friends, and have fun! Several student groups including REthink Wisconsin, Slow Food UW, FH King, and the GreenHouse Residential Learning Community, have been working together to coordinate this effort since Fall 2010. We are excited to see the program in action, and look forward to many future Farm Mobs! Contact Us if you are a farmer or a student that would like to get involved. We will be planning many more Farm Mob events, and are always looking for new participants! |
